KEY ACTIVITY - GUEST SPEAKER JACQUI EMERY, BUSINESS DIRECTOR, ROYAL FAR WEST

Jacqui said that staff are enjoying the new building and initial issues have been resolved. Jacqui talked about the various programs undertaken by Royal Far West including their core program that includes paediatric development. Telecare is a pilot program being undertaken in Queensland that can be operated remotely. This program is now in 110 schools with 80 Telecare sessions a day. A seven year Federal Grant will enable RFW to double the Telecare for kids program. The Windmill Program is for children with disability and takes place in Manly. The Department of Industry has given RFW a grant to expand this program. The Healthy Kids Bus Stop is carried out in collaboration with local health people. A bus is taken to rural areas eight to ten times a year and children from 3 - 5years of age are screened for their developmental ability. 87% of the children screened need a referral of some kind however some people don't take up the referrals, so RFW follows these people up. They try and get the children into the system before they start school.
There are 110 staff at RFW including 18 speech pathologists and 12 occupational therapists, etc. They now deliver services across Australia. RFW is attempting to build up its capability including community fund raising with a major project, securing regular givers and acquiring people to donate on a regular giving program. Ken Hopley thanked Jacqui for her time this morning.
