KEY ACTIVITY -  FUN RUN UPDATE
GENERAL BUSINESS
  • Welcome to Cedric and Marlene from Greymouth Rotary. They reported their major fund raiser is a book sale - all books $2 and they generally raise around $13000. Their club was struggling with all male members and they felt the need to stimulate the club so that it could move forward. There is now a 50/50 male/female mix, the venue was changed and though the average age is in the "older" category, there are members in their forties. The club used to run a women's triathlon but it became too difficult with ever increasing  rules and regulations from local authorities and health and safety requirements.
  • Ken will report on the Zone Presidents' meeting next week, but mentioned there was not an enormous positive reaction to a joint northern beaches event for the retirement of Dave Darcy. In this case our club will start making enquiries about a function around February 2020.
  • Susie thanked those who are volunteering for this Saturday's (17 August) market stall. We will try to sell some of the Manly Rotary T Shirts, promote the Fun Run and encourage people to think about becoming Rotary Club members. Set up 7.00am.
  • One Door (Pioneer Clubhouse) is conducting its Wellness Walk (Bridge Walk for Mental Health) on 25 August and club members and their families are encouraged to register. #wellnesswalk2019#bridgewalkformentalhealth.
  • Club members are urged to vote in the My Community Project for the Fairlight/Manly Scout Group (login to MyServiceNSW, provide your medicare number to verify your name and age, provide your NSW residential address (you can only vote if you reside in the Manly electorate). Voting closes 15August, so only two days from now.
FUN RUN UPDATE
  • We now have 1000 people who have registered thanks to our very aggressive social media campaign and the tireless efforts of the publicity team Ginny, and family, Doug and Marieken and James. A special thank you to Marieken for all her work behind the scenes.
  • A date for next year's fun run was discussed with the the majority of the current committee in favour of May (which is available). It was decided to defer a final decision at this stage.
  • Peninsula Living included an article in this month's magazine however did not advertise the date. Nothing yet from Manly Daily. The on-line magazine "Covered" has publicised the event. Zali Stegall, Candy Bingham and James Griffin have also been promoting our fun run for which many thanks. Another media promotion today from Ann Lang - again many thanks.
  • Kyong from Sebel confirmed the two weekends for two at the Sebel as a prize for the best fancy dress.
  • Three of this year's sponsors have expressed interest in sponsoring our event next year and possibly over the next three years.
  • Club members present were asked to take home medallions and bundle them in sets of ten and bring them back to the meeting next week.
  • The first set of Resident Notices MUST be distributed this weekend and the second drop by Sunday 25 August. This is a Council mandatory requirement, so club members responsible please make the drops by Sunday.
  • Additional flyers and posters available at the meeting today for distribution in the area. A quantity also available for the market stall on Saturday.
  • Richard has organised for us to place a banner close to the fast ferry terminal.
  • This Friday 16 August club members are asked to come to the ferry wharf and hand out flyers advertising the fun run. Volunteers so far Doug, Norm, Robert, Beverley. Time 6.30am until 8.00am. Next week it was suggested an early evening hand out at the ferry wharf from 5.30pm to 700pm. Volunteers required - day to be decided.
  • McKellar girls High School has at least ten volunteers now confirmed. We now have 140 promised volunteers for the fun run.
  • A list of volunteers shown in their teams was distributed at the meeting. IT IS ESSENTIAL that Section Heads now make contact with the volunteers on their team to confirm their team's responsibilities, time to arrive and where to arrive on the morning of the run.
  • Jay is still needing information from some Section Heads about size and quantity of Volunteer T Shirts required.
  • Club volunteers for the Saturday morning equipment drop at the various stations now include Matt and Norm to work with Jay. Another volunteer is needed to help with this work that will take a couple of hours at most. Please contact Jay if you can help.
  • At least one more volunteer is needed for the Sunday morning (4.30am) start at Pioneer Clubhouse to distribute the balance of the equipment around the course. So far we have Jay, Matt, Norm and Susie.
