PRESIDENT SUSIE'S WEEKLY MESSAGE
Apologies for missing the meeting this morning – the first since becoming co-president, so perhaps not too bad!

Last Saturday I spent time with volunteer women from the Turramurra Rotary Club to work with them and Lynne Shori on the D4G (Days for Girls) project.  We had a great production line in “factory” formation cutting out fabrics from templates that make up the D4G kits. The individual components are then sent to Manus for the local women to sew together into the kits. Eventually once the women are confident with the sewing, the Club will only need to send the fabric and all the work can be done by local women, ready for sale at the markets and to schools.

It was great to work with the ladies who meet once a month (with encouragement and support from Lynne) to do more cutting (and fun). Our Community Director Vivien Coulson explained to us last week about Lynne’s next “vision” that is for a Lap Lang multi purpose facility on Manus, where women from the surrounding Islands can gather to make up the D4G kits. This will bring the women together where they can socialize and sew, then take the kits back to their villages for sale. Lynne had a Grant Application in with the June Canavan Foundation that on the weekend came through, to finance the Lap Lang structure. Congratulations Lynne on your hard work and tenacity.

A special thank you to Doug our co-president (together with Ty) who have worked tirelessly on the various applications for our fun run and walk on 3 June. It is all coming together now after the exciting changes we are planning for this year. Also thank you to our Youth Director Andrea for her commitment in gaining some publicity for our Manly Rotary Club.

Hope you all have a great week, Susie
