FUN RUN (Doug)
1600 registered are to date with 200 registered and not paid. Anticipate over 2000 by Sunday 1 September. Fee increase by $10 on Friday may encourage more people to register now.
  • All banners are now in place, as well as posters along the beach fronts, Manly to Spit Walk, etc.
  • We received two paragraphs in Manly Daily last weekend and were advised that to receive more publicity we need human-interest stories with photographs and copy. Four of our Designated Charities have responded so will try again for some publicity this weekend.
Designated Charities
Lifeline has already raised just under $10,000. Pioneer Club House $10,000, Bushlink $6000, Stand Tall $2000, Royal Far West $150. Committee to review the strategy next year.
Two photographers will have drones for this year including over North Head. Two will be on the Corso and at least one at ICMS.
Sector Marshall last minute information
An email will be sent to each sector Marshall with bus timetables that may impact the route. Marshalls to be vigilant about the buses. After meeting with police today more information will be sent to sector Marshalls regarding times of road closures.
Letters to residents
Almost all complete. Apparently we have missed Montpelier Street in previous years. Now rectified.
Distribution of flyers
  • Evelyn, Ted, Susie and Doug will hand out flyers at Manly Ferry Wharf from 4.30pm to 6.30pm this Wednesday 28 August.
  • James will take additional flyers to Manly Chamber of Commerce meeting on Wednesday.
  • Club members asked to distribute as many flyers as possible before Saturday as they are of no value after that date.
Volunteer responsibilities
  • Sector Marshalls are requested not to swap around volunteers from station to station without first discussing with Jay otherwise some sectors may not be covered with sufficient volunteers.
  • Jay stressed the importance for each Sector Marshall to contact their volunteers asap to ensure they are still available on the day. Any problems contact Jay.
Corso/Steyne Registration and Start/Finish
These sector Marshalls will keep in close touch with each other to ensure everything that is needed is covered on the morning - in particular with set up.
Jay and Ted to liaise with Graham Kinder to make sure we are aware of where each officer will be stationed. They will be in uniform and available for any emergencies.
Equipment for each Sector
  • Most of the equipment will be dropped early Saturday morning including some at the Steyne that will be locked until Sunday morning. Susie and Jay have keys to the lock and will be at the Corso/Steyne from 6.00am Sunday to release the equipment.
  • John Pack was requested not to put up signs until Sunday morning as there is an “event” at ICMS on Saturday night.
  • Jay and his team are meeting at 4.00am on Sunday morning to drop the last of the equipment. They will start at Manly Wharf around 4.30am then Addison Road, Corso, SLSC, ICMS and North Head by which time the gates should be open. All equipment should be dropped by 6.30am.
  • Barricades must be in place by 8.10am (wait for last bus to go through).
  • Jay will make sure there is access to ICMS from 6.00am (parking available in ICMS)
  • If anyone has concerns about their signs, then please contact Jay asap.
  • On Friday 30 August the Bushlink people will be helping put up signs from 9.30am. Ginny and family will also be helping. If you are available to help contact Jay before Friday.
Clean up
  • As soon as the 5k runners have taken off, Matt and Jay will start to follow them in the truck and pick up equipment as well as act as “sweepers”. They will attempt to get to the Ferry Wharf while police are there and put barricades up on the truck. The majority of the route can be covered in this way so there is no need for a specific 5k “sweeper. “
  • Remember to bring wire snips and rubbish bag to take down the signs.
  • As soon as the last runner has gone through then start dismantling the signs and put the signs and all equipment in one spot so it can be picked up by the truck.
  • Make sure there is no rubbish left lying around.
  • Please have someone stay at each Sector until all the equipment has been picked up. If you have to leave please contact Jay to advise him.
  • Doug asked that some of the corflute signs be left as they do not belong to the Club and Doug has to return them.
Post event
Discuss again after the event
T Shirts
  • Volunteers to wear the yellow Volunteer T Shirts. Please collect the Volunteer T shirts from the volunteers at the finish.
  • Sector Marshalls to wear their Manly Rotary T shirts.
  • Doug will get back to Sector Marshalls regarding possible parking for up to 40 cars at Novotel.
  • Sector Marshalls and volunteers are asked to come back to the Corso to create a “carnival” atmosphere after the run has finished.
  • Ginny asked club members to take lots of photos for publicity next year.
  • The Corso area apparently double booked and there will be market stalls on the Corso but the operators have been advised of the fun run and will have the tables open to the south side to minimize traffic congestion.
  • Doug and Jay were given vote of thanks for all their work in organising this year’s fun run.
  • Denis Rosario from Sydney Cove Rotary has an interesting story to tell that will be postponed until next meeting.
  • Ken presented a Sapphire Paul Harris Award to George McLelland for his great work for The Foundation over the past few years.
We received information from the Northern Beaches Cluster about the function. Income received was $2777, Expenses $1130 therefore a profit of $1647. We have been given a poster of our projects to di
