Duties:  Desk –Norm Thomson Notes - Susie Morgan; Sergeant-at-Arms - David Park

Welcome: Denis Rosario from Sydney Rotary (hope to see you again)  and Greg Treasure who will be volunteering on the fun run. Also welcome back to Evelyn Ciocco from your annual trip to the States and Beverley Leahy (thank you for your help with the fun run organisation).

Birthday:  None to report this week

Special note: Vivien Coulson sends her regards from Brisbane and will be in town soon (hopefully will have time to attend a club meeting). Our past club member and fun run director Ty Stokoe sends his regards to club members and best wishes for the fun run – he is settling on the Sunshine Coast and rebuilding his business up there.

1300 registered to date, with an anticipated 600 more within the next week and about 300 on the day. Participants have generally elected to pick up their packs on the day this year that will make the Registration area very busy. Queues may need to be managed outside the Steyne 2, 5 and 10k windows if people arrive all at the same time. The cost of registration will increase by $10 on the day of the event to encourage registration prior to the day.
Mainly now aiming at families who tend to register closer to the date of the event (referring to the fancy dress competition and activities for children on the morning). Sebel has donated a weekend for two (with parking) as a prize for the fancy dress.
Banners are now almost all in place.  The Corso banner is to be put in place on Wednesday. Club members are asked to continue to place flyers and small posters around the area. There was a wharf flyer hand-out last Friday (around 1000 flyers distributed). The fast ferries have flyers on board as well as banners.
The A frames will be set up tomorrow around the local beaches as for previous years.
We now have four photographers to be placed strategically throughout the route.
This year there are four sponsors of $5000 each (Bendigo Bank, Blackmores, Medibank Private and Healthy Mummies). There is also interest in sponsoring the event from NRMA and Medibank next year.
Letterbox distribution
All completed last weekend and another drop to be made this weekend in the same areas. Thank you to club member volunteers for this necessary work.
Manly Ferry Wharf distribution
Doug, Susie, Ted and Evelyn volunteered for the next promotion on Wednesday 28 August from 4.30pm to 6.00pm. (Could Richard please check with management for approval).
Those club members who did not return medals today please take to the shed at Pioneer Club House this week (no key - then call Jay)
Volunteer T Shirts
Jay still needs shirt sizes for some of the teams. Sector team leaders please let Jay know asap the number and sizes required. There is a limited number of small and medium available.
Jay is still needing additional volunteers for erecting signs around the route (arrows, etc.). There are about 200 to be placed. Jay will bring a roster next week to allocate responsibilities for this task. Doug asked that any club members who see signs that are already in on posts and have moved around in the high winds, to please put them back in place.
If any sector team leaders need additional equipment or want to change their requirements, please contact Jay this week.
Special thank you to Jay for his organization of volunteers and equipment, and particularly to Robert for his tireless efforts in every aspect of organising the fun run.
Jay and his team will start putting up barricades around 6.00am on Sunday morning.
Market Stall at Manly Village School
Susie thanked those who helped last Saturday and mentioned that Bushlink came along to promote their charity. A successful day again with lots of interest from families in particular who may register for the fun run. Many locals also said they had already registered. Two or three people expressed interest in joining our Club with one person in particular completing an application form for more information. The sale of merchandise was not that successful, however it was a cold and windy day and not quite as busy as last month. We have booked another stall for 21 September.  Club member help on the day again will be much appreciated.
Clontarf Foundation Ross Kelly Cup annual dinner.
Ken and Susie were invited to attend the dinner. There were 47 NSW academies represented at the dinner with around 500 boys and their mentors attending. The Education Minister Sarah Mitchell made a speech as well as Victor Dominello. Phil Gould gave an entertaining interview with Brent Nathan and Chris Smith, both Aboriginal rugby league players. Susie mentioned how well behaved and polite the students were throughout the evening and suggested we may be able to help the Foundation in some way this year as the program has a measurable success rate with many boys now continuing their education beyond year 10. Norm suggested we may be able to consider a scholarship. (To discuss further after the fun run).
Yulefest – Northern Beaches Cluster dinner
Ken and Evelyn represented our Club at the dinner. Evelyn reported it was a fun evening the purpose of which was to encourage networking between clubs and organising events as a “cluster”. There were over sixty people at the dinner that included entertainment and food provided by Brittany from Rotaract. RYLA (students) were present and spoke well.
CEO of the Year Award
Ted asked that club members support Lindsay Cane of RFW who is amongst the three finalists from hundreds of nominations.  Link has been sent to all club members if they wish to support Lindsay.
Zone Presidents meeting
Ken reported the Assistant Governor is attempting to get the Northern Beaches clubs to be more collegiate in their approach. The previous Assistant Governor initiated idea last year but progress is slow. Liz McDougall from DY said she will attempt to get our Clubs more exposure in the Manly Daily.  There was a request from Balgowlah club to pay the salary of a homeless services worker one day a week (approximately $250) to keep it going for next six months. This request does not fit within our donation guidelines, so unfortunately had to be declined.
Retirement event for Dave Darcy.
Ken reported there was little response from the Northern Beaches clubs to organize this event, however they would consider it if they had more information. Ted offered to manage the event and suggested he and Ken visit ICMS to discuss it further. The target will be for 200 guests with the date to be in the first two weeks of February next year. All club members present agreed it was important for us to make it a successful farewell to Dave.
