About Us
Rotary International
is a global network of over 1.2 million friends, neighbours, community leaders and problem-solvers.
In more than 35,000 clubs around the world, its members come together to make positive, lasting changes to communities at home and abroad. With their Motto of Service Above Self, their Mission is ‘To provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders’ Chief among RI’s activities are those associated with fighting disease (eg End Polio Now, Malaria Eradication, Reducing HIV), providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene (in a host of underdeveloped countries across Africa, the Indian sub-continent, South America and the Pacific), supporting education; promoting better health care; and developing the economies of local communities.
What may have started off as a men’s club more than a 100 years ago, has since spread around the globe and expanded to include everyone.

Manly Rotary Club
supports these endeavours, while also raising funds for, and ensuring the effective project-management of a range of capital works-related projects for many charities within our own local community – principally those concerned with youth, homelessness, mental illness, physical disability and neglect.
Our own Mission is ‘To become THE ‘Go-To’ Service Club on the Northern Beaches’: a challenge, but one which with our recently renewed mid-range strategic plan, a committed and growing team, and our community’s support, we believe we have every chance of achieving.
Our track record is good. In the 5-6 years of our last strategic plan, for example, our signature projects included extensively renovating and refurbishing Pioneer Clubhouse, a psycho-social rehabilitation center for people of all ages in Balgowlah; building a homeless people’s bulk cooking facility for the Salvation Army in Manly; re-furbishing the Manly Community Center; supporting the establishment and then on two occasions extending the residential facilities for the Manly Women’s Shelter; and building up-to- date toilet and bathroom facilities for neglected children at Stewart House in Freshwater. More recently we have supported Australian Doctors International (another Manly-based volunteer medical services organisation) in Papua/New Guinea, our nearest norther neighbour, by supplying medical diagnostic testing equipment; and pioneering a critical sanitation project on Manus Island which has the potential to be adopted country-wide.
These projects don’t come cheap! – which is where our design and development over successive years of Manly’s Annual Scenic Fun Run and Walk comes in. Now in its eighth year, it has raised over $550,000 in support of our efforts, directly – and attracted an equivalent sum both in sponsorships and grants because of the merit-worthiness of the causes we have pursued.
And our achievements have been recognised both locally and internationally with such Awards as Rotary International’s Significant Achievement Award, Our District’s Community Service Shield, and Manly Council’s Australia Day Award for Community Service.
Most of all, though, our aim is to ensure that in all that we do our members have fun: socially, and just as importantly, as members of a team fulfilled by what they have done.
