District News

Volunteer Hours:  Susie informed everyone that they now need to record the number of hours that they volunteer as well as the $ amount given in donations. This information needs to be recorded for Rotary. Blank record sheets were handed out in the meeting to record the information however if you were not at the meeting, you can email this info to Susie.

District Governor Nominations:  Anyone wants to put their name down for District Governor (you need to be a past president), see Susie for more details.

Club News

Vivien’s Travels:  Susie received an interesting email from Vivien, she talked about her travels however unfortunately Hurricane Irma affected her travel and ability to see the country.

Dee Why Rotaract: At last week’s Rotary Board Meeting it was agreed at their request that we would sponsor 2 Dee Why Rotaract club members to go to their conference. It is $169 each.

End Polio Now Campaign – Club arrangements: On the 24th October from 7am - 9am we are going to hold our club meeting at Manly Wharf. We are going to celebrate End Polio Day and hold a Recruitment drive. Richard is directing this and he has approached the wharf to see if this is possible. We have banners, tables, a gazebo, and flyers. There was a discussion about purchasing new Rotary T-shirts to wear at events like this instead of wearing the yellow Fun Run t-shirts. T-shirts to be talked about further at the Fun Run meeting to be held this evening. David Brown and Doug to give their old Manly Rotary/SunRise T-shirts to Ty and Ty will look into design, colour and costing options and come back to the club members

Royal Far West Venue Meeting Banner: Thank you to Rob for organising the Rotary banner outside the Royal Far West door with the new telephone number on it. It was raised that we should look into the possibility of seeing if we can have it there all the time.

Today’s Business

Getting to know our members:

Doug, Ty and Norm gave 5 minutes each on their personal stories: a feature of our meetings once every month from here-on.

Next month’s mix of newer and more experience members to give  their personal stories will include Sherry, Ted and Richard.

First Aid training:

David (Brown) talked about the need for First Aid training for our club members. it would be very beneficial especially for events that we are putting on such as the Manly Fun Run. It is a 1 day training course, held in Pitt Street and the certification lasts for 3 years. David is proposing that the club should pay for volunteers to become registered first aiders. (about $70 each).

**Please email David if you are interested in attending and David will collate the names and come back to the club on numbers and cost at next week’s meeting.

Working With Children certification - URGENT!

Anyone who hasn't submitted their Working with Children check should obtain the approval and email it to James Okkerse. ( James Okkerse James@moneydoesntsleep.com )

Vision/Mission/Strategy and Teams (attached)

Doug gave a brief re-cap on our recent workshops on the above, and provided a schematic highlighting key agreed areas of activity and their respective Club Directors/Team Leaders.

Following further discussion it was understood that Maggie Shanahan had not wanted to relinquish her role as Rotary Foundation Director, and will work with Bev. See modified chart attached.

**All involved were asked to think critically about their related priorities, key goals and action plans – and the additional resources they would require; and to be prepared to outline their intentions at forthcoming Assemblies.
