A big thank you to Ty Stokoe and all of the hard working team for the work that has been going on “behind the scenes” in preparation for our big event of the year – 2018 MANLY ROTARY SCENIC FUN RUN AND WALK.  This year there have been changes to the route (10k in particular) that will encourage the serious runners to participate in the event.  The course is similar but more challenging and a true 10kms. The entertainment planned at the start of and during the day will enable runners and walkers to have a lot of fun all morning. Thank you also to our club members who have put up their hands to help as volunteers on the day.
It was a pleasure also this morning to welcome back Peter Brusewitz from Borgholm, Sweden. We look forward to seeing you again when you are in Sydney Peter.
We received a communication from the Community Service Chair 9685 regarding a national Trachoma Live event on Facebook 19 – 25 February 2018.  Rotary International President Ian Riseley will lead a list of accomplished presenters who will talk in detail about Trachoma in Australia. Please join in this event if you have the opportunity.
If you haven’t received your copy yet, this month’s Rotary Down Under is a good read. It includes lots of information about what is going on around us and may give us some ideas for future projects and fund raising opportunities.
Ty met up with a group of walkers the other Sunday – “Walk and Talk”. This is an organization that was developed to help people who may be experiencing issues with depression, just “blue days”, or needing a little company.  It’s a very simple concept where every Sunday, starting at Manly Lagoon (Queenscliff), the group walks for about 4ks towards Manly Surf Club and back, giving them an opportunity to exercise and to have a chat. The walk starts at 9.00am and our Club members are encouraged to join in the walk. It is a way of helping and encouraging people who may be experiencing difficulties in their life that costs nothing but can be of great help. Look forward to meeting you there one Sunday.
I hope everyone has a great week.
